Daily Herald, Kane County Chronicle big winners

Rex Huppke’s message to the attendees of NINA’s annual banquet ranged from goats to metro editors named Cliff to the importance of journalists staying true to their craft.

DeKALB — More than 60 regional journalists and journalism educators gathered Thursday for the Northern Illinois Newspaper Association’s annual awards banquet at Northern Illinois University.

The Daily Herald won a sweepstakes award for having the most points in the daily category, and the Kane County Chronicle won a sweepstakes for earning the most points in the nondaily category. This year’s competition included four new categories: election coverage, humor, meeting coverage and immigration/mulitcultural coverage.

The banquet featured keynote speaker Rex Huppke, columnist for the Chicago Tribune.

NINA has been serving the journalists and educators in Northern Illinois in conjunction with the Communication Department of Northern Illinois University for 55 years. For the list of winners, please see below.
