Daily Herald, Galena Gazette big winners in NINA contest

DeKALB — Regional journalists and journalism educators gathered Thursday for the Northern Illinois Newspaper Association’s annual awards banquet on the campus of Northern Illinois University.

The Daily Herald won a sweepstakes award for having the most points in the daily category, and the Galena Gazette won a sweepstakes for earning the most points in the nondaily category. More than 20 organizations submitted about 400 entries.

The banquet featured keynote speaker Heidi Stevens, who writes the Balancing Act column for the Chicago Tribune.

NINA has been serving the journalists and educators in Northern Illinois in conjunction with the Communication Department of Northern Illinois University for 56 years.
