The Department of Communication at Northern Illinois University invites nominations for two of its most prestigious honors — the Donald R. Grubb Distinguished Journalism Alumnus/Alumna of the Year Award and the Illinois Journalist of the Year Award.
Nominations for both awards must be submitted electronically by Friday, Feb. 21, 2020 to Jason Akst (firstname.lastname@example.org).
Nominations for each award should include the nominee’s name, graduation year, contact information, and a 200- to 500-word statement addressing the nominee’s relevant accomplishments and contributions. Supplemental material to support the nomination may be provided.
Both awards will be presented at the 73d Annual Journalism Awards Banquet on Friday, April 24, 2020.
Distinguished Journalism Alumnus/Alumna of the Year
This award is presented annually to a program alum (major or minor) who has made a significant contribution in the field of journalism or public relations.
The contribution may be the result of a single accomplishment during the past year, or through a sustained effort over a longer period of time. Program alumni at all career stages may be considered. Self-nominations are encouraged.
Illinois Journalist of the Year
The Illinois Journalist of the Year Award is presented annually to a person who has made a significant contribution to the mass media or, through them, to the public they serve, either as a result of a single accomplishment during the past year, or through a sustained effort over a longer period of time.
Any journalist employed by an Illinois mass medium, or any Illinois resident associated with a national medium serving the people of Illinois, is eligible to receive the award. Self-nominations are encouraged.
