Daily Herald general excellence winner in 2022 NINA competition

DeKALB — Regional journalists and journalism educators gathered Thursday at Northern Illinois University to mark the 60th anniversary of the Northern Illinois Newspaper Association. The association also recognized the region’s best journalism with its annual awards presentation. 

The Daily Herald won the general excellence award. The general excellence award is presented for excellence in local news and feature content, enterprise and watchdog reporting, leadership on the editorial page, reader engagement, quality of sports content, use of photos and multimedia, design, headlines and use of art. 

Seventeen nameplates submitted 274 entries into the competition. 

The banquet featured keynote speaker Kelly Bauer, senior editor at Block Club Chicago. Bauer is a graduate of NIU.

NINA serves journalists and journalism educators in Northern Illinois in conjunction with the Department of Communication at NIU.
